- White Smoke- A white smoke that dissipates quickly after reaching an open cool area is an indication of vapor. This would indicate the burning/boiling of water. Example=Defective Head Gasket
- Blue Smoke- A blue smoke that lingers and rises slowly is caused by the burning of oil. Example=Defective Piston Rings
- Black Smoke- A black smoke that falls slowly is indication of excessive burning of fuel. Example=Vehicle Running Rich
